I have completely neglected this blog.

As a college student, and an art major it is too difficult to keep up multiple blogs. Tumblr is also much more convenient for someone who focuses on the visual and not on the literal.

Geek Chic Part 1

I love Geeks. I am a Geek. 
One of the most important characteristics of a Geek is their style, or lack thereof. But with this super chic style guide to Geeks, I'll have your average Hobbit lookin' like a classy elf.... er.... at least like a classy Hobbit.
 
Sweaters
Every geek should know, you need a good stash of sweaters for all that time you spend indoors in a dark place making art, geeking out on the computer, playing video games, reading, whatever it is that any geek does. 
So here is my selection of sweater must-haves:

Vests
One thing that I've learned is difficult to find are cardigan sweater vests for women. Does anyone else have this problem? I've gone through so many internet searches... all I want is a cardigan wiht the sleeves lopped off, doesn't seem too hard to do. Luckily I found one at Buffalo Exchange this past Labor Day that, once I sew the sides up to make it fit me better, will be a staple in my fall wadrobe.

Me and my Mac

So if you know me you know that I love Apple. They're ridiculous in their ways of overpricing, and coming out with a newer model 6 months after the last one was released. But all their products are just so dang good looking. And the ultimate look of cool tech savvy nerd.
I love my MacBook, and I love the amazing Disney nerdiness that I can combine with my lovely laptop.
One of my most favorite gifts I have ever been given is the computer decal my brother gave me or Christmas last year.

This summer I had to take my mac into the Apple store to get the charger fixed, and my computer drew a mini crowd of apple employees. One guy took pictures and a video of it because he thought it was so cool.

Well, today I was browsing Etsy, a fabulous handmade web site that has amazing sellers and beautiful items for sale, and found this:

Oh man.... I've always wanted an iphone. I still can't wait for the day when I have a steady job and enough money to afford one, what a dream come true that will be. And if I got a cool sticker like this. I could have matching Macs!!!

On another note... I an in love with my under the bed area. I never want to leave it. 

It has been named "The Bohemian Fairyland"

I can't really get a good picture of it, but I have my comfy chair, Jane, with art on the wall, flamingo lights, a billowy blue sky above, and little golden stars hanging down above my head. I can't wait for Christmas when they put out lights. I've been waiting to get a small strand of just plain white lights to put them up and have distant stars shine through my sky.
I'm also excited to gather more art for my wall, it's something that I do every year. I love the gradual collecting of inspiring images.
Well, I have a meeting with my Theology small group to go to.

Just A Side Note...

After my last post of me geeking out about comfy nerdy outfits, I stumbled upon the most wonderful website, The Chic Geek.
It's technically a fashion site for geek males, but when has that ever stopped me? I love men's fashion, 'specially the guys that they feature on the site. Check out the Street Geeks here.

Today is my last day of work and my last day to pack! Tomorrow I load up the car and move back to school. Crazy.

P.S.While you're here, take a listen to this song. It's super 80's (which is the only reason I know it, from the show I'm working on right now), but it's one of my favorites I've discovered and goes quite well with the geek theme I have going.

 

Coat-vert Affairs

Excuse the cheesy title, but I can't help but share my love for the new series Covert Affairs.

What I love most about the series are the characters.The two main ones being Annie Walker (played by Piper Perabo) and August "Auggie" Anderson (played by Christopher Gorham).
Annie Walker ( maybe a distant cousin of our favorite female Chuck agent Sarah Walker?) is a shove-in CIA agent who wears casual and classy business attire and kicks butt in Louboutin heels. While I appreciate her style with nice slacks and classy blouses, my main costume love resides in the character of Auggie Anderson.
Auggie is the CIA tech guy who used to be a special ops officer until he was blinded during a mission. Now he resides in his super sweet office that is filled with special audio systems and a pretty amazing computer that uses audio and braille to tell Auggie what's up with the mish.
I always have an instant soft spot for the techies on spy shows, and Auggie's style is the ultimate comfy buisness look. I always find myself envious of his amazing sweaters and vests.
Well, see for yourself.

Might I add that he has several different color variations of THE sweater that I've been searching for. Just a basic color with a contrasting band around the edges. like the one seen above. You have no idea how many web and store searches I've done to find this beauty.

And can I just say, I love the nickname Auggie for August. I need to stop loving guy names more than girl names, or maybe I should start hoping for a future filled with many sons.

I also took a crack at making my own style representation. I would totally recreate his look for myself if I coul d.

All the episodes of Covert Affairs are now listed on hulu. Check it out. There's good humor, good characters, good stories, and a good intro that is very Chuck-esque. This is a show that I will have to try to keep up on while I balance my college student duties.

New Addiction. New Career?

I caved.

I got a Polyvore account. So, what is Polyvore?

It's a web site where you can put together "sets" by browsing all the different clothes/accessories/fashions that anyone anywhere can upload to the site.

I like to use it because I can type in anything (i.e. Doctor Who, Alice in Wonderland, oxford shoes, Alphonse Mucha) and get search results of different outfits that people have put together to fit those topics.

A recent trip to the mall in an outfit that I really liked sparked my interest (again) in being a stylist. The moment my Mom and I walked past the jewelry section in JC Pennys I took off looking for the perfect earrings to go with my outfit. I knew exactly what I was looking for. While I didn't find what I had in mind, the hunt for it was so much fun!

So the opportunity to put together whatever outfits I want,  with whatever pieces I want (without emptying my bank account) is a dream come true!
It took me a few tries, and a short stint at conforming to a more messy and cluttered style that most people use, to develop a nice style that I really like. So far I've done a few that I really like.

Can I just say...

Seriously, go watch it.... stick it out through series 1 and then sit back and enjoy.

Epic Mickey

It's scheduled to release this holiday season, and it's making me want a Wii.

It's Epic Mickey. Disney's new attempt to revamp their trademark pal by going back to his mischievous root.

The story goes like this: Yen Sid made a fictional theme park called the Cartoon Wasteland where he banished all of his unused ideas. This world is accessed by a mirror that transports you into the land.  The clumsy helper, Mickey, spills paint and paint thinner on it, resulting in creating a new bad guy in the land called the Phantom Blot, who proceeds to take over the land from Mickey's long-lost half brother Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
Years later, Mickey is pulled into the world by the mirror and now has to save the day using his magic paint brush and avoid being destroyed while gaining the trust of Oswald who is now mad with jealousy of Mickey's fame and glory.

So here's the deal. You can use Mickey's paint brush to either create with paint (like making bridges to get across a chasm) or erase with paint thinner (like erasing obstacles and enemies). You go around and create a reputation while playing choosing to either become a hero by helping others or a scrapper by taking the more selfish route.

Besides it sounding like a bundle of awesome inside Disney geeky stuff, like uncovering stashes of E tickets. The design of the game looks awesome!

The land is a ridiculous mash-up of deconstructed classic Disney and robotics with a dash of steampunk.

While I'm not very good at video games, I do make an exception for certain special ones like Zelda and the Ocarina of Time and Kingdom Hearts. Sadly, there is no longer a game console in my home and the only one I have access to is my roommate's xbox during the school year, that I'm not very fond of due to lack of games for it that I would actually attempt to play.

I've always known that I would want a Wii though, Mario Kart is just too fun when you get to be princess peach on a pink motorcycle.
