Amen

I was going through my inspiration folder, thinking about my various art projects I'm working on, and came across this image. I think it sums it up what I think about art pretty well.

Just like Harry's first ride on the Knight Bus...

My third year started out with a bang!

The roommies and I arranged our room so we all have a sweet set up. All lofted beds so we have our own space under them for our desks and various sitting places.
I have room under for my desk and the perfect amount of space for my thrifted chair, Jane.
Popsicle loves sitting in his little spot by the window and watches the people walk by outside.

What I've found most exciting (besides my awesome prof for Theology 2, my illustration, and Animation classes), is a project that I actually have only had a small part in.
At the end of summer, my dearest Amber came over and helped me with making a new sketchbook. I had an old book cover, extra paper, needle, and thread. Problem was, I didn't know how to make that into a new sketchbook. Amber did. So the darling took it from me, put it all together, and then presented it to me a few days ago.
Ladies and Gentlemen, My new sketchbook...
Yup, that's right. It's in an old hardcover binding of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
After Amber handed it over to me, I quickly got to work "pimping" it out.
What you see in the picture above is a pasted in Ravenclaw stationary page (I put in several of those), my own penned version of The Jabberwocky poem by Lewis Carroll, a pasted in red envelope that reminds me of a howler, and one of the original pages from the book( several of those are also put in).
There are other things I added like lined paper, and a ribbon bookmark. Amber had sewed in not just the brown pages, but also pages form my old stash of drawing paper and watercolor paper as well.

Want to know the BEST part? It's Harry's third year at Hogwarts. It's my third year at Biola. And what an adventurous year it will be.

Happy back to school everyone!

Mirror, Mirror, on the wall...

Who is the nerdiest one of all??

Apparently it's me...

Just A Side Note...

After my last post of me geeking out about comfy nerdy outfits, I stumbled upon the most wonderful website, The Chic Geek.
It's technically a fashion site for geek males, but when has that ever stopped me? I love men's fashion, 'specially the guys that they feature on the site. Check out the Street Geeks here.

Today is my last day of work and my last day to pack! Tomorrow I load up the car and move back to school. Crazy.

Well, gotta get to packin'!

P.S.While you're here, take a listen to this song. It's super 80's (which is the only reason I know it, from the show I'm working on right now), but it's one of my favorites I've discovered and goes quite well with the geek theme I have going.

Coat-vert Affairs

Excuse the cheesy title, but I can't help but share my love for the new series Covert Affairs.

What I love most about the series are the characters. The two main ones being Annie Walker (played by Piper Perabo) and August "Auggie" Anderson (played by Christopher Gorham).
Annie Walker ( maybe a distant cousin of our favorite female Chuck agent Sarah Walker?) is a shove-in CIA agent who wears casual and classy business attire and kicks butt in Louboutin heels. While I appreciate her style with nice slacks and classy blouses, my main costume love resides in the character of Auggie Anderson.
Auggie is the CIA tech guy who used to be a special ops officer until he was blinded during a mission. Now he resides in his super sweet office that is filled with special audio systems and a pretty amazing computer that uses audio and braille to tell Auggie what's up with the mish.
I always have an instant soft spot for the techies on spy shows, and Auggie's style is the ultimate comfy buisness look. I always find myself envious of his amazing sweaters and vests.
Well, see for yourself.

Might I add that he has several different color variations of THE sweater that I've been searching for. Just a basic color with a contrasting band around the edges. like the one seen above. You have no idea how many web and store searches I've done to find this beauty.

And can I just say, I love the nickname Auggie for August. I need to stop loving guy names more than girl names, or maybe I should start hoping for a future filled with many sons.

I also took a crack at making my own style representation. I would totally recreate his look for myself if I coul d.

All the episodes of Covert Affairs are now listed on hulu. Check it out. There's good humor, good characters, good stories, and a good intro that is very Chuck-esque. This is a show that I will have to try to keep up on while I balance my college student duties.

I think I should copyright

Check out what I found on Modcloth today.

This past spring I did some painting to sell for my mission's trip. I made some in advance, but I also took requests and made some right there on the spot. I didn't catch photos of all of them, but here's a big picture dump of my paintings. Keep in mind that I don't consider myself a painter or a photographer.
I had an old copy of Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban that I used to paint on. Most people would consider it an awful thing to do, to take out pages from fine literature and treat it this way. But I love doing it. I don't think it's disrespectful. In fact, I think it to be quite the opposite. I often try to find books or authors I like to make in to art. I use the pages of things that inspire me.
I also love trying to relate the two.
For instance, I painted an owl on a page from the chapter "Owl Post"
Sometimes the poor art major in me has no other choice but to buy books that I'm not particularly interested in. This page (and others I painted on ) is from an old readers digest. And apparently has several semi-trashy romance novels in it. I found that out when I was in mid-painting and started actually paying attention to some of the words on the page.
For clarification. I bought it because I liked the cover (and kept it for a future project) and the pages had the correct yellow tint that I needed.
 more owl post
My roommate, Jojo, bought this one from me. I think it was actually the first one I made.
This was a request, for the chicken on Harry Potter. Love it.
Another request. I want to recreate this one. I love the wale blue on the book page.
I made this for my dear friend, Marnie. I call her Narnia, so I painted her the lamp post with Mr. Tumnus.
 More owl post...
And more owl post... People really liked the owl idea.
Flower commission.

I painted a bunch of different bikes, thinking the hipsters would love it. Some did, most didn't. Next time I need to do more research on things hipsters like.

Well, that was a great reminder to post more of my work! I'm not really going to copyright, but it is giving me ideas to make my own stationary...

The 80's, Cat Lady, and The Quickly Flipping Calendar

You know in the movies, when they want to show that time is passing at a quick rate and they show the calendar pages flipping past you as the days fly by?
That's how I feel my life is. There aren't enough days for me. Mostly because I'm gone at work from 8-11 pretty much all the time. I actually start work around 12 or 1, but I come in early with my dad since it's easier than him driving all the way from downtown and back to take me to work. I get Mondays off. But I only have 2 of those left until I move back, and I have to pack and fix my bike up, and come up with an efficient yet small organization system for my dorm (since I have less floor/art storage space this year because of new bed configurations). Also, there are people who want to hang out with me. Why they all wait until I have to work every day, all day, I'll never know. But it's driving me mad.

Speaking of fixing up my bike...
I'm SO excited to be starting on that. Yesterday (on my day off) my dad took me to the local bicycle warehouse where I picked up new handlebars and grips. Then we went to Home Depot and I got primer, lacquer, and a new pretty color for my darling two wheeled friend.
Now I need to find time to clean all the parts, sand and paint it, and wait for my new tire tubes to arrive in the mail. I've talked about my bike, right? I finally named him. Theodore. So cuddly, so proper. Good 'ole Theodore. I can't wait to fix him up and add the finishing touches of a vintage basket and my new bike bell straight from Amsterdam that my parent's brought back for me.

And now speaking of work....
The show I'm working on right now is called Mixtape. It's pretty much a musical overview of the 80's. Which is pretty cool, even though I only had 2 months in the decade I can still remember some things that carried on to the 90's. Pretty cool, that is, until you have "Eye of The Tiger" stuck in your head for 3 days straight. I'm sitting in the theater right now, in fact, early in the day while the carpenters are working on the set, listening to some nice chill-out-modern-day music.  I've got some amazing acoustic-early-days-when-she-was-awesome Lady Gaga (check out the song "No Floods" it's wonderful), some Stephen Speaks, Owl City, Jason Mraz, Jane Monheit, Ben Rector, Jeff Pianki, Colbie Caillat, Pomplamoose,  and Regina Spektor. Talk about easy listening.
So now I'm doing a deep cleanse of my eardrums for the day until it gets gunked up again with the likes of the Jem theme song, tons of MJ songs, "Papa Don't Preach", Madonna, and "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" (which makes my mind jump to praise songs after the verses, look it up on youtube, if you want to know what I mean).
Don't get me wrong though, I do have a certain respect for the 80's. I mean, Captian Eo..... need I say more?
It's the kind of thing that happens no matter what show you're working on though. Last summer, I couldn't stand songs from The Fantastiks for weeks after I worked it. I could recite the entire play of Harvey at the beginning of the summer when I was on book for weeks. I guess now is my chance to get a thorough 80's education.

.....Bet you're wondering what all this has to do with the 'Cat Lady' in the title...
I just put that in there because I am a cat lady. Most people shudder and give me hateful looks when I admit to it. Several people have told me I should stop admitting it to save my reputation. But I love cats. I've always wanted one. So much that I used to pretend to be one when I was little. I think that when you start pretending to be your own pet cat is when you have confirmation of you being a cat person.
We have a particularly sweet kitty on our street that always tries to get into our house when we come home. He's a beautiful cat too... he looks almost like an ocelot. He runs over from the front yard of his house and attempts to sneak in next to us. So I give him some pats and skratches and tell Mr. Cat that he can't come in our house today. Then I usually close the door slowly on him as I secretly wish I could grab him up in my arms and snuggle with him as I curl up with a cup of tea.
Someday I will own a cat. It's one of those dreams that I've had for so long that it comes before children in my book, probably even marriage since I'm expecting that nothing like that will happen until I'm 30.

Best things about today?
1. Got my Starbucks Gold card in the mail = free grande tuxedo this morning to go with my yummy blueberry muffin (oh how I love muffins...)
2. Brought one of my Nutella snack packs from Germany with me, also my 'Nerd Herd' travel mug with a PG Tips tea bag in it, ready for a nice cuppa.
3. Found the mysterious disappearing third Milka bar in my almost unpacked from Germany suitcase. I knew I had one more!
4. My fake bro, Rayray, told me he knows what he's getting me for my big Two One bday coming up in october. AND my real-bro-at-sea-in-the-Caribbean-with-the-best-cruise-job-ever told me he got both of my bday pressies in the mail today. Needless to say, so much curiosity is building up inside of me right now.

There's another crazy word jumbled update from me!
